“The Paris Film”—our latest film—will be screened in Salzburg, Austria at Das Kino (the best movie theater in town!) on October 13, 2012 at 2:45pm. The screening is part of Salzburger Filmtage, organized to showcase a new DVD of films supported by the city and state of Salzburg. “The Paris Film” is a visual short story inspired by the work of Argentine writer Julio Cortázar and stars Jimena Paz.

Edward and Anja will co-teach “Drawing Inspiration from the Movies,” a class designed to help photographers deepen their work and improve their composition through a better understanding of the visual history of cinema. The class is presented by the International Center of Photography (ICP) from Nov 8–Dec 13, 2012 on Thursdays, 7–10pm. For a full class description or to register, visit the ICP website. Class at ICP: Telling a Story with Photographs

The Bear

Anja’s video “The Bear” (with music by Edward Ratliff) will be screened in “Letters from the Sky,” an international experimental film festival launched as part of the COPART Cultural Action in Durban, South Africa, taking place during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (November 28 to December 14, 2011).

L'Oeil de la Photographie

“L’Oeil de la Photographie” (formerly “Le Journal de la Photography”) awarded Anja’s series “Chinese Fast Food” Portfolio of the Year 2012, chosen from several hundred portfolios.

Underline Gallery in New York City is presenting a solo exhibition by Anja called “Take Out: Chinese Fast Food from April 5–May 13, 2012. This series of photographs, shot in a temporary food court set up inside Beijing’s Olympic Park, concentrates on the saturated visual displays of the food stalls and the way the environment contrasts with the boredom of the workers. Curated by Michael Steinberg.

Elevated Acre - 2011

Two prints from Anja’s photography series “Elevated Acre” are now in two museum collections in China — at the Huantie Times Art Museum and the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre — both in Beijing.

Anja will teach a two-day workshop at the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre in Beijing, China this October 8 and 15. The workshop, “Seeing People and the Space Around Them,” is for those who want to create dynamic compositions and develop a heightened sensitivity to photographing people in various surroundings. Anja Hitzenberger’s work will be featured in a group show in Beijing, China at the Salon Exhibition of Huantie Times International Resident Artists Program, where she is currently a resident artist. The opening is October 11, 2011 at 4:30pm at the Huantie Times International Gallery, and the show runs through October 18.

Tanz magazine yearbook 2011

Once again, one of Anja’s photographs is featured on the cover of the Tanz magazine yearbook. This photo is of Mariangela Lopez, and inside there are more photos by Anja of Kathy Westwater, Martin Kilvády of Les Slovaks, Gilles Polet and Liz Santoro, David Zambramo, and also a short feature on Anja’s views of dance photography.
